Lotus Emira

A black sports car is parked on the side of the road in front of a bridge at sunset.

At last, it has arrived. Following three years of delays attributed to emission standards, the Emira made its debut in the United States. Lotus's newest addition to its lineage of compact sports cars is truly eye-catching, particularly in the vibrant yellow hue showcased at NYIAS. However, beyond its striking design, a significant aspect lies in the Emira being the last model from the British manufacturer to embrace an internal combustion engine.

The Lotus Emira V6, acclaimed for its design and performance, stands as the pinnacle of Lotus sports cars. Now, introducing a four-cylinder engine option further broadens its appeal. With 360bhp and 430Nm, the Emira First Edition embodies Lotus's ethos of performance through lightweight engineering. This addition marks a significant milestone as the final mainstream combustion engine Lotus two-seater.

Designed for high performance, the 2.0-litre engine boasts advanced technologies for power and efficiency, delivering 0-62mph (0-100km/h) in 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 171mph (275km/h). Its seamless integration with a dual-clutch transmission ensures a refined driving experience with lower fuel consumption.

Mike Johnstone, Lotus's Group Vice-President, emphasizes Emira's success and enhanced capabilities with the new engine, offering both efficiency and agility. Gavan Kershaw, Director of Vehicle Attributes and Product Integrity, highlights meticulous tuning to ensure the Emira delivers superb handling and performance across different driving modes.

Built at Lotus's Chapman Production Centre, the Emira showcases a blend of craftsmanship and technology, reflecting a £100 million investment in UK facilities. Customers can experience the production process firsthand, adding to the allure of owning a Lotus.

The powertrain, designed for performance, incorporates advanced features such as a twin-scroll turbocharger and direct injection, delivering a balance of power and efficiency. Paired with Mercedes-AMG's dual-clutch transmission, the Emira ensures seamless power delivery and exhilarating performance.

Thanks to its lightweight aluminium chassis and race-derived suspension, the Emira's dynamics are finely tuned. Customizable chassis settings allow drivers to tailor the driving experience to their preferences, whether for road or track use.

Externally, the Emira's design exudes aerodynamic beauty, drawing inspiration from the Evija hypercar. Its sculpted form and purposeful details enhance both performance and visual appeal. A range of color options and exterior enhancements allow for personalization, ensuring each Emira is unique.

Inside, the Emira offers a luxurious yet driver-focused environment. Premium materials and cutting-edge technology enhance comfort and usability.

With its blend of performance, craftsmanship, and technology, the Lotus Emira sets a new standard for sports cars, offering a thrilling driving experience that's as refined as it is exhilarating.

Nantucket, with its misty harbors, salt-kissed breezes, and centuries-old charm, has always been a place where history whispers through every weathered shingle and cobblestone street. This spring, one of the island’s most beloved landmarks, the Veranda House, will once again welcome guests, rising from the ashes of a devastating 2022 fire that necessitated a complete rebuild. Set to reopen in spring 2025, the new Veranda House is a masterpiece of restoration and reinvention. Owned by Procaccianti Companies and managed by TPG Hotels & Resorts as part of the Nantucket Resort Collection, the rebuild was meticulously overseen in collaboration with the town and historic district commission to ensure that the property retained its original federal-style elegance while incorporating modern luxuries and state-of-the-art amenities. First built in 1684, the Veranda House has stood as a symbol of Nantucket’s rich maritime legacy, its wraparound porches offering a front-row seat to the island’s ever-changing seascape. The new design remains true to its original size, scale, and architectural character, seamlessly blending historic integrity with contemporary comforts. Guests will find spa-like ensuite baths in every room, featuring Carrara marble, custom fixtures, and sleek walk-in showers—a nod to modern indulgence without sacrificing classic charm. The 19 redesigned rooms, including the Grand Harborview King with its private balcony and fireplace, exude an intimate, serene luxury. Expanded outdoor gathering spaces now offer even more opportunities for guests to soak in the island’s ambiance, whether sipping coffee at sunrise or toasting the golden hour over Nantucket Harbor. “This reopening marks a significant mile- stone, not just for Veranda House, but for the entire Nantucket community. We are deeply thankful for the community’s unwavering support in bringing this iconic property back to life,” says Paul Hitselberger, EVP of Operations for TPG Hotels & Resorts. The Veranda House is not just a recon- struction—it’s a resurrection, a tribute to Nantucket’s ability to endure, evolve, and enchant. Its doors reopen as a beacon of timeless hospitality, welcoming travelers to a place where history is honored, and every detail—from the breezy verandas to the handcrafted interiors—tells a story. For those who love Nantucket, the Veranda House is a homecoming. Images courtesy of The Veranda House.
