Cadbury Creme Martini

A Grown-Up Indulgence

Revisiting the cherished Cadbury egg, a symbol of Easters gone by, unveils a surprising and sophisticated reincarnation: the Cadbury Egg Cocktail. This isn't just about satisfying a sweet tooth; it's about embracing a beloved childhood treat through a decidedly grown-up lens. That familiar snap of the chocolate shell, giving way to sugary bliss, now inspires a nuanced and delightful drink.

To capture the essence of the egg's chocolatey exterior, a clear liqueur known as crème de cacao lends its subtle cocoa notes, acting as a blank canvas for the other flavors. The creamy texture, so integral to the egg's experience, is best achieved with a balanced combination of whole milk and heavy cream, resulting in a smooth, rich consistency. For the spirituous backbone, the choice rests on personal preference: the crisp purity of vodka or the aromatic complexity of gin, both providing a classic martini foundation.

The iconic yolk, that vibrant orange center, requires a touch of ingenuity. Instead of a dense element, a light and airy dollop of sweetened whipped cream, tinted with a hint of yellow food coloring, provides a visually striking and texturally pleasing float, echoing the egg's core.

For those who enjoy preparing ahead, this indulgent cocktail can be batched and stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to five days, ensuring a readily available treat for those moments when a touch of nostalgic delight is called for.

The Cadbury Egg Cocktail transcends mere novelty; it's a playful yet elegant nod to cherished memories, reimagined for the adult palate. It proves that the simple joys of the past can be elevated into sophisticated pleasures. Here's to savoring the sweet side of adulthood, one delightful sip at a time!

  • Ingredients

    • 1/4 cup milk chocolate
    • 3 Tbsp. condensed milk
    • Yellow and red food dye
    • 3/4 cup half-and-half
    • 2 1/2 oz. crème de cacao
    • 1 1/2 oz. vodka or gin
    • Ice
    • 3/4 cup seltzer
    • 1 Cadbury egg, halved lengthwise
    • Cadbury eggs (halves, for garnish)
  • Step 1

On a small, shallow, heatproof plate, microwave chocolate in 10-second increments, stirring between each, until melted and smooth, about 30 seconds total. Dip rims of martini or coupe glasses into the melted chocolate.

  • Step 2

In a small bowl, combine condensed milk with a drop of yellow food dye and a very tiny amount of red dye. The color should be a similar orange color to the inside of a Cadbury egg. Pour this mixture into the bottom of the prepared glasses to resemble an egg yolk.

  • Step 3

In a cocktail shaker, combine half-and-half, crème de cacao, and vodka. Fill the shaker with ice. Vigorously shake until the outside of the shaker is very frosty, about 20 seconds. Strain the cocktail into the prepared glasses. Top off with seltzer.

  • Step 4

Gently slice a small slit in the back of each Cadbury egg half and arrange them on the rim of the glasses, using some melted chocolate or a skewer to help them adhere, if needed.

Nantucket, with its misty harbors, salt-kissed breezes, and centuries-old charm, has always been a place where history whispers through every weathered shingle and cobblestone street. This spring, one of the island’s most beloved landmarks, the Veranda House, will once again welcome guests, rising from the ashes of a devastating 2022 fire that necessitated a complete rebuild. Set to reopen in spring 2025, the new Veranda House is a masterpiece of restoration and reinvention. Owned by Procaccianti Companies and managed by TPG Hotels & Resorts as part of the Nantucket Resort Collection, the rebuild was meticulously overseen in collaboration with the town and historic district commission to ensure that the property retained its original federal-style elegance while incorporating modern luxuries and state-of-the-art amenities. First built in 1684, the Veranda House has stood as a symbol of Nantucket’s rich maritime legacy, its wraparound porches offering a front-row seat to the island’s ever-changing seascape. The new design remains true to its original size, scale, and architectural character, seamlessly blending historic integrity with contemporary comforts. Guests will find spa-like ensuite baths in every room, featuring Carrara marble, custom fixtures, and sleek walk-in showers—a nod to modern indulgence without sacrificing classic charm. The 19 redesigned rooms, including the Grand Harborview King with its private balcony and fireplace, exude an intimate, serene luxury. Expanded outdoor gathering spaces now offer even more opportunities for guests to soak in the island’s ambiance, whether sipping coffee at sunrise or toasting the golden hour over Nantucket Harbor. “This reopening marks a significant mile- stone, not just for Veranda House, but for the entire Nantucket community. We are deeply thankful for the community’s unwavering support in bringing this iconic property back to life,” says Paul Hitselberger, EVP of Operations for TPG Hotels & Resorts. The Veranda House is not just a recon- struction—it’s a resurrection, a tribute to Nantucket’s ability to endure, evolve, and enchant. Its doors reopen as a beacon of timeless hospitality, welcoming travelers to a place where history is honored, and every detail—from the breezy verandas to the handcrafted interiors—tells a story. For those who love Nantucket, the Veranda House is a homecoming. Images courtesy of The Veranda House.
