The Art of Aging

Embracing the Journey

In our modern world, spotting a single wrinkle can trigger anxiety. Whether it's Hollywood stars or the latest influencer, everyone seems to defy the aging process flawlessly. Naturally, we all wonder: Am I aging well?

Dr. George Gavrila of Pro MD Health offers a refreshing perspective on aging — one that revolves around choice and intervention. "We've got a choice," he states. "As we age, we have a choice whether to let mother nature take her course and do nothing, or to intervene."

Dr. Gavrila believes that embracing the art of aging involves shifting one's mindset from fearing the process to embracing its journey. "I think the art of aging really falls back on to: to what degree do we intervene and what coincides with what our aging expectations are?" he explains. This philosophy challenges the notion that aging is an inevitable decline, empowering individuals to take charge of their aging process.

One key aspect of this approach lies in understanding the options available for maintaining a healthy and youthful appearance. While traditional surgical methods may have been the go-to solution in the past, Dr. Gavrila highlights the advancements in nonsurgical treatments, particularly in regenerative aesthetics.

Stem cell therapy, for instance, offers a promising avenue for facial rejuvenation, harnessing the body's own regenerative potential to restore youthful features without the need for invasive procedures. "It's all about finding that balance," Dr. Gavrila explains. "Setting a timestamp helps us focus on what we should be aiming for — not trying to revert back 20 or 30 years, which can result in an unnatural appearance." He emphasizes the importance of maintaining a natural look, noting that Pro MD Health avoids any changes that might make someone appear "odd or inappropriate."

At Pro MD Health, the focus is not just on outcomes but on a holistic understanding of the aging process. Dr. Gavrila and his team are committed to providing tailored solutions that cater to each patient's individual needs. From preventive measures like skincare routines and healthy lifestyle habits to innovative treatments such as regenerative fat grafting, Pro MD Health offers a comprehensive approach to aging gracefully. "Being iterative on the process is really important," Dr. Gavrila emphasizes. "If you are changing someone's appearance too rapidly, one can overshoot, and the risk goes up." He advocates for a conservative, sequential approach to treatment, stating, "We'll likely find that sweet spot of what that 10-year-ago looks like,

and that might be different for everybody."

Furthermore, Dr. Gavrila stresses the significance of early intervention in addressing aging concerns. Rather than waiting for visible signs of aging to emerge, he promotes a gradual and proactive treatment approach to achieve natural-looking results while preserving each person's unique features. "At Pro MD Health, our focus is not solely on outcomes but on maintaining a conservative approach," Dr. Gavrila emphasizes. "Our team comprises highly trained mid-level providers — nurse practitioners, doctors, or PAs — whose extensive education ensures a deep understanding of the aging process."

By embracing choice, intervention, and personalized care, individuals can navigate the aging process with a sense of empowerment, redefining what it means to age gracefully in the modern age.

Nantucket, with its misty harbors, salt-kissed breezes, and centuries-old charm, has always been a place where history whispers through every weathered shingle and cobblestone street. This spring, one of the island’s most beloved landmarks, the Veranda House, will once again welcome guests, rising from the ashes of a devastating 2022 fire that necessitated a complete rebuild. Set to reopen in spring 2025, the new Veranda House is a masterpiece of restoration and reinvention. Owned by Procaccianti Companies and managed by TPG Hotels & Resorts as part of the Nantucket Resort Collection, the rebuild was meticulously overseen in collaboration with the town and historic district commission to ensure that the property retained its original federal-style elegance while incorporating modern luxuries and state-of-the-art amenities. First built in 1684, the Veranda House has stood as a symbol of Nantucket’s rich maritime legacy, its wraparound porches offering a front-row seat to the island’s ever-changing seascape. The new design remains true to its original size, scale, and architectural character, seamlessly blending historic integrity with contemporary comforts. Guests will find spa-like ensuite baths in every room, featuring Carrara marble, custom fixtures, and sleek walk-in showers—a nod to modern indulgence without sacrificing classic charm. The 19 redesigned rooms, including the Grand Harborview King with its private balcony and fireplace, exude an intimate, serene luxury. Expanded outdoor gathering spaces now offer even more opportunities for guests to soak in the island’s ambiance, whether sipping coffee at sunrise or toasting the golden hour over Nantucket Harbor. “This reopening marks a significant mile- stone, not just for Veranda House, but for the entire Nantucket community. We are deeply thankful for the community’s unwavering support in bringing this iconic property back to life,” says Paul Hitselberger, EVP of Operations for TPG Hotels & Resorts. The Veranda House is not just a recon- struction—it’s a resurrection, a tribute to Nantucket’s ability to endure, evolve, and enchant. Its doors reopen as a beacon of timeless hospitality, welcoming travelers to a place where history is honored, and every detail—from the breezy verandas to the handcrafted interiors—tells a story. For those who love Nantucket, the Veranda House is a homecoming. Images courtesy of The Veranda House.
