The big, bold and beautiful African continent beckons many travelers. Whether it is to take in the sights of expansive vistas, see the wildlife or experience the rich and storied cultural traditions….a vacation in Africa can feed the soul in ways other travel cannot compete.

Africa can offer both a glimpse of modern, city life and a natural wilderness experience all in the same vacation. Few other destinations can give travelers this kind of diversity. The possibilities are endless …. and the time you spend in Africa will be forever imprinted on your soul.

Adventure and Safari

Most visitors to Africa are seeking a chance to see wildlife and even the most seasoned world travelers regard the safari as a once in a lifetime experience. South Africa’s Kruger National Park, one of the largest game reserves in the world, boasts beautiful lodges and the chance to see the magnificent Big Five animals in the bush. In Botswana, the Okavango Delta is a diverse and spectacular setting to view hippos, buffalos, elephants, zebras and more. And of course, the world-famous gorillas in Rwanda make a visit to that country’s Volcanoes National Park an unmistakable opportunity to pay homage to those that have worked so hard to protect these beautiful creatures.

As awe-inspiring as a safari experience is, however, Africa, is also filled with other adventure opportunities. A visit to South Africa might mean shark cave diving off the coast or paragliding off the side of a mountain or climbing to the top of Table Mountain.

History and Culture
The generations and generations of customs, traditions and ancient rites are on display in much of Africa. Whether in ceremonies, food or music, the time-honored ways of Old Africa welcome visitors to experience what ties the continent to the collective memory of a myriad of different people.

Of course, in South Africa, there is a tumultuous history every visitor should learn and understand. Visiting the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg or Nelson Mendela’s prison cell on Robben Island brings the text book lessons to life.

Contemporary City Life

Yet, even in the midst of this history and tradition, there is look toward the future. The continent’s cities have embraced a creative and sophisticated approach that is evident in commerce, art and culture.

Africa’s modern cities are a beautiful fusion of the best of the past and a look to what can be possible. Cape Town, a bustling seaside city in South Africa is both a top tourist destination and a center for international business. Beautiful coastline beaches, fine dining and rich history make it a top rated destination in the world.

South Africa’s growing wine industry is located just a short drive from Cape Town. The towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek house many vineyards that host lunches, tours and tasting menus amidst lush, rolling landscapes.

Prepare to Fall in Love

There are countless stories to tell about a visit to Africa. Some may seem cliché, but there is really no place on earth that shares the natural beauty, the abundant wildlife, the rich history and the warmth of its people the way Africa does.

And, while you may think you are embarking on a ONCE in a lifetime vacation….you will find yourself wanting to return again and again.

Nantucket, with its misty harbors, salt-kissed breezes, and centuries-old charm, has always been a place where history whispers through every weathered shingle and cobblestone street. This spring, one of the island’s most beloved landmarks, the Veranda House, will once again welcome guests, rising from the ashes of a devastating 2022 fire that necessitated a complete rebuild. Set to reopen in spring 2025, the new Veranda House is a masterpiece of restoration and reinvention. Owned by Procaccianti Companies and managed by TPG Hotels & Resorts as part of the Nantucket Resort Collection, the rebuild was meticulously overseen in collaboration with the town and historic district commission to ensure that the property retained its original federal-style elegance while incorporating modern luxuries and state-of-the-art amenities. First built in 1684, the Veranda House has stood as a symbol of Nantucket’s rich maritime legacy, its wraparound porches offering a front-row seat to the island’s ever-changing seascape. The new design remains true to its original size, scale, and architectural character, seamlessly blending historic integrity with contemporary comforts. Guests will find spa-like ensuite baths in every room, featuring Carrara marble, custom fixtures, and sleek walk-in showers—a nod to modern indulgence without sacrificing classic charm. The 19 redesigned rooms, including the Grand Harborview King with its private balcony and fireplace, exude an intimate, serene luxury. Expanded outdoor gathering spaces now offer even more opportunities for guests to soak in the island’s ambiance, whether sipping coffee at sunrise or toasting the golden hour over Nantucket Harbor. “This reopening marks a significant mile- stone, not just for Veranda House, but for the entire Nantucket community. We are deeply thankful for the community’s unwavering support in bringing this iconic property back to life,” says Paul Hitselberger, EVP of Operations for TPG Hotels & Resorts. The Veranda House is not just a recon- struction—it’s a resurrection, a tribute to Nantucket’s ability to endure, evolve, and enchant. Its doors reopen as a beacon of timeless hospitality, welcoming travelers to a place where history is honored, and every detail—from the breezy verandas to the handcrafted interiors—tells a story. For those who love Nantucket, the Veranda House is a homecoming. Images courtesy of The Veranda House.
