Essential oils

“Essential oils are not only delightful to use because of the pleasant fragrance, but they are therapeutic and a natural remedy to aid us with many of our daily needs as a safeguard against bacteria and harmful viruses”. - Maureen Royale of Jamonique Essential oils.

If you are feeling apprehensive about the current epidemiological situation in the world and wondering how to protect yourself from getting sick, you are certainly not alone. Today, during the recent pandemic and the constant increase of people infected with viruses, it is important to do all we can to fortify our bodies and boost our immune systems. Eating well, washing hands regularly, and getting plenty of sleep form the basis of self-care. However, if you want to add another layer of protection and to be extra preconscious, then using essential oils with antibacterial properties is a good place to start. The essential oils listed below do not only kill viruses and bacteria but also stimulate the immune system and provide benefits for our beauty.

Geranium

Geranium essential oil is known for its antibacterial and antimicrobial properties making it effective against various bacterial strains. It is grown in different parts of the world, including Asia and Europe. Though there are several varieties of the pink flower Pelargonium graveolens, their composition, uses, and benefits are near-identical.

There are multiple studies suggesting geranium oil is effective in treating various bacterial infections due to its antibacterial properties. For example, the results of a study published in the Iranian Journal of Microbiology in 2012 revealed that geranium essential oil was about as effective as amoxicillin in treating pathogenic bacterial infections, including Staphylococcus aureus. Another research has shown that the oil can be used effectively against 24 different fungi and bacteria. It also helps regulate hormones and is great in relieving anxiety and depression.

In addition, this oil is used in cosmetology and is beneficial for all skin types, especially for dry and oily. It is recommended to add a few drops of the oil to a face mask or cream and use It daily. Within a couple weeks you will notice that your skin becomes tightened and will glow.

Lavender

Lavender oil is made from the flowers of lavender - a plant native to the Mediterranean regions and Northern Africa.

It is well known as a natural antibiotic and antiseptic that is able to fight off various bacterial and fungal infections. Until World War I, lavender oil was used in hospitals to treat and disinfect wounds and to sterilize medical equipment and surfaces.

Today, the oil is widely used as a therapeutic remedy to combat fungal skin and nail infections and for boosting the immune system. The results of numerous studies proved that lavender oil effectively treats headaches, relieves stress, and improves sleep. This is all great for protecting against neurological damage and strengthening the immune system.

Lavender oil is also a popular component of many beauty products. Lavender is able to revitalize, tone, and soothe irritated skin. This oil is also helpful in treating different skin problems due to its anti-inflammatory effects.

Orange

If you are looking for an uplifting-smelling antibacterial essential oil, orange oil is a smart choice. The oil is made from the rind of the sweet orange by using a method of cold pressing.

Orange oil is beneficial for maintaining overall health, fighting off infections, and improving skin texture. In 2012, the Journal of Food Science studied the effect of this oil on strains of staph bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus) known for its resistance to antibiotics. The results showed the oil, added to infected human cells culture, kills bacteria without harming or destroying the cultured cells. Moreover, this oil also serves as a natural digestive aid and detoxifier. It removes the toxins from the body and blocks in the digestive tract.

The oil is also used in aromatherapy to refresh spirit and mind, to improve mood and relieve daily stress. It effectively combats anxiety and depression, promotes relaxation and brings calmness. This all improves the quality of sleep and makes the immune system stronger by making it able to confront various infectious diseases.

Orange essential oil is also widely used in the production of skincare products, including creams, lotions, and soaps. Due to its antibacterial and antifungal properties, it helps to make the skin healthier and get rid of various skin problems, including dryness, acne, and others.

Lemongrass

Lemongrass essential oil is derived from Lemongrass leaves by using the method of steam distillation. Lemongrass plant grows in tropical and subtropical parts of the world and is used in medicine, cosmetology, and culinary.

Due to its antibacterial properties, lemongrass is mostly used as a natural remedy for healing wounds and preventing infections. The study conducted in 2010 and published in the Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine revealed that lemongrass oil is also able to fight off antibiotic-resistant bacteria causing such diseases as skin infections, blood infections, severe intestinal infections, and even pneumonia. With the help of its anti-inflammatory compounds, it is also able to relieve the symptoms of cardiovascular disease, arthritis, and even treat cancer.

Packed with vitamins A and C, lemongrass oil is a perfect ingredient for beauty products. Just a few drops of the oil added to a cream are able to boost the skin and make it look shinier and healthier.

From a $3 Gilda skewer to a $110 sirloin, Rada’s offerings reflect Buckles’ culinary pedigree and adventurous flair. With dishes like eggplant escabeche and seabass paired with txakolina wine, Rada aims to carve out a niche in Charlotte’s emerging shared-plates scene.Rada blends fine dining with approachability, focusing on flavors that challenge Charlotte’s palate while embracing its neighborhood vibe. Highlights include crispy roast chicken with vegetable farcis and Asian-inspired touches like fish sauce and shio koji.
